Grab your katana and brace for snow—Sucker Punch Productions is back with Ghost of Yōtei, a standalone sequel to the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima. Launching October 2, 2025, exclusively on PlayStation 5, this new adventure introduces a fresh story, a new heroine, and a dramatic shift in scenery.
Following its big debut during PlayStation’s State of Play in September 2024, Ghost of Yōtei has quickly become one of the most anticipated releases of 2025. And if you’re hungry for gameplay, hang tight—a deep dive is coming this July, with an extended look at what’s new.
New Hero, New Era

Set in the year 1603, roughly 300 years after Jin Sakai’s journey, Ghost of Yōtei trades the shores of Tsushima for the snow-covered wilderness of Ezo—now known as Hokkaido. Players will take on the role of Atsu, a fierce female warrior with a haunting past and a sharp blade.
Atsu’s mission? Vengeance. Adopting the ghostly mantle of the Onryō, she’s hunting down the Yōtei Six—a brutal gang who slaughtered her family 16 years ago. Her story will unfold in a more non-linear structure, giving players freedom to decide how, when, and where they confront their targets.
Welcome to Ezo
The new setting is as much a star as the characters. Expect snowy ridges, ancient forests, and volcanic terrain in the shadow of Mount Yōtei. Sucker Punch says they’ve put serious research into getting the atmosphere, history, and cultural details right—including reference trips to Japan.
From what we’ve seen so far, Ghost of Yōtei looks to deliver a darker, colder, and more rugged world—visually distinct from the golden fields of Tsushima.
Blades, Guns, and Ghostly Combat

Combat-wise, Atsu’s no slouch. Her arsenal includes dual katanas, a mighty ōdachi, the nimble kusarigama, and—new to the series—Tanegashima matchlock firearms. That’s right: gunplay is joining the mix, adding a bold layer to the already sharp combat system.
Sucker Punch promises that while the heart of Ghost’s action-adventure gameplay remains, Yōtei brings new mechanics and weapon variety to the table.
Built for PS5
No cross-gen here—Ghost of Yōtei is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, built from the ground up to take full advantage of the hardware. That means massive draw distances, dynamic weather, realistic foliage movement, 3D audio, and haptic feedback during combat. Expect the world to feel more alive—and more dangerous—than ever.
